Andreas Ortaga was a friend of Rufus May. In March 1904, they went to a tailor shop together to purchase American clothing. While Ortaga was being fitted for a suit, May attempted to steal a pair of trousers. He was most likely a carpenter since this took place prior to the other groups arriving. Vivencio Sossa was a Visayan man around 20 years old. He lived in the Visayan Village and was a woodcarver. He carved a bust of Jose Rizal during the World’s Fair and later those of George Washington, Napoleon, McKinley, and David R. Francis.

Sultan Sungud

Sungud was a Meranao sultan from the Lake Lanao area of Mindanao. He lived in the Lake Lanao Village on the Philippine Reservation. He was Peplon’s brother, who died during the fair. When Peplon’s body was not returned with the rest of the group, Sultan Sungud demanded he be repatriated in 1905.

Suyon 🌿

Suyon was an Igorot man from Bontoc, Mountain Province who lived in the Igorot Village on the Philippine Reservation. In between performing dances, he would read newspapers to learn English. He was also reported to have been a skilled sipa player. He died during the World’s Fair on July 15, 1904 from pneumonia at age 30. His brain is preserved in the Smithsonian.
